Week 2 Reflection

This week, I learned how important research really is. I now realize how many schools, districts, and individuals actually use research on a daily basis. I admit, I use some research to an extent when analyzing students' test scores, etc., however, after listening to the scholars of week 2, I now understand how important, relevant, and necessary active research is.

Research should be a regular tool/responsibility that a person does in his or her profession. As future school administrators, research keeps us up-to-date, informed and educates us on what strategies, practices, and skills we can use to better our school and our student achievement levels. We need to work together in the education field to provide and share practical research that can benefit others. By sharing and communicating such knowledge, our school systems can be much more effective and efficient.

  1. I agree Robin. We look at data and yet we don't critically analyze it and use it to do action research to actually CHANGE what we do. Instead we look at doing more of what we do which is not always best. Sometimes a change is needed and yet it needs to be something that is practical for our situation. This takes discussion and trial and more discussion. Gone are the days of going in the room and closing our doors, we must learn to collaborate or we will not be effective in bringing about the positive change for the students we serve.

  2. Robin,

I too thought that those interviews were such eye-openers. We do look at data and try to get answers as to why students are failing in spite of so many interventions. I especially enjoyed listening to the interviews in that they pointed out how important qualitative data is and how we should use that to determine what other factors are keeping students, campuses and districts from being successful.
